The Amazon rainforest or Amazonia is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest covering most of the Amazon basin. If you look at the map of South America you’ll notice that almost sixty percent of the forest is contained within Brazil. Besides that Peru and Colombia also contain a significant percentage of the magnificent rainforest. The Amazon represents over half of the planet’s remaining forests. It is home to the largest and the most diverse tract of tropical rainforest around the globe with approximately 390 billion individual trees belonging to more than sixteen thousand species. The Amazon rainforest isn’t only inhabited by plants and animals, around thirty million people belonging to 350 different ethnic groups also live here.
