Tensions rose in the Korean Peninsula
As tensions rose in the Korean Peninsula amid North Korea’s missile provocations, the U.S and its allies clashed with Russia & China at the UN. The U.S on Friday accused Russia and China of ‘bending over backward’ to justify the unprecedented arms demonstration by Pyongyang. This was after the UNSC council failed to pass a joint statement condemning North Korea. Russia & China were quick to hut back. While China linked it to the restarting of large-scale US & South Korean drills after a five-year break. Russia blamed the worsening situation on ‘the desire of Washington to force Pyongyang to unilaterally disarm by using sanctions and exerting pressure and force’.
