The Biden administration is being criticised over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan after her journey inflamed tensions with Beijing.

China has issued numerous threats over Ms Pelosi’s trip – with live fire exercises due to begin around Taiwan on Thursday, local time.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson suggested Ms Pelosi’s trip was “pointless” and may provoke Chinese aggression against Taiwan – an event that could, among other things, spell disaster for global supply chains of electronic devices.
Taiwan accounts for more than 90 per cent of the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing capacity, according to a report from April 2021.
